About The Team

I grew up in Christchurch, originally trained as a Butcher but always had a passion to work with wood, I have fond memories helping my Grandfather in his garage working on many little projects. After gaining some experience in the wooden souvenir industry, we purchased a couple of patterns from a retiring wood worker in 1998 which was the humble beginning of Naturally Wood NZ Ltd.

In 2004 the business and family relocated to a rural site close to Hokitika in the West Coast In which enabled the fabulous opportunity to work from home surrounded by the very native bush our product is sourced from.

This really is a “family business” Over the years as the boys have grown older, Julie’s involvement has increased and she now plays a major role in the business. The Children are also involved working after school, one currently working alongside his grandmother who’s a permanent part time staff member.

We love being able to work together and raise our family in this stunning environment. It is a pleasure to work with a rare timber that has true beauty so to enhance this beauty we prefer our designs to be simple lines and forms, drawing inspiration from nature. This is evident in the Koru coaster and trivets which are inspired from a Koru (Maori for an unfurling frond of the New Zealand Silver Fern)
